The Courtyard by Marriott on the Ashley River has arranged some
FANTASTIC rates for our stay so call early to reserve a room at these
special prices: City view Thursday$119, Water view Thursday $167, City
view Fri&Sat $136, Water view Fri&Sat $177. Call 1-800-549-8154 and use
the code HATS. Cut off date is 9/01/2010. There is a 48 hour
cancellation policy. If you plan on staying 5 days or more there will be
a further discount….call Brandy Olsen 843-722-7229 ext 618 for special
pricing.
The Ashley Marina, now renamed Harborgate Marina, is an easy 1 block
wall to the Marriott. This facility was completely refurbished a few
years ago and now is mainly dock-a-miniums that are managed by the
Ashley staff. The fee is $2.10/ft and $12/day 50 amp power. The 42s and
48s will be grouped in slips and the larger vessels will have access to
the face dock. Call Davis Rackley or Reed McCann at 843-722-1996 or
email staff@ashleymarina.com. As most of you already know the currents
in and around Charleston are very strong…it would be advisable to
approach docking at slack tide.
The $150 cost per person includes hors D’oeuvres, 2 breakfasts, carriage
tour, dinner, meeting room fees, speaker expenses….camaraderie,
priceless!

For our out of town friends that had inquired about chartering trawlers
in this area, there is just not much to offer. There are chartering
companies in Florida and up the NC coast the closest being in Oriental
NC with sailing vessels BUT I did find this one. SOUTHERN COMFORT
usually comes with a crew but the agent indicated that the owner might
be willing to consider leasing to experienced boaters. Here is the
contact information:
http://motoryachtsoutherncomfort.com or http://www.boatbookings.com/ For
those interested in renting smaller boats for exploring the local
waterways, there are many local marinas with everything available from
kayaks to dinghies to inland and offshore fishing vessels. If you let me
know what you are interested in I will be happy to get more information
to you. ericksf@bellsouth.net
We hope that you will stay a while in Charleston and take the time to
enjoy all the many special aspects of this area. We will be organizing
before and after activities for those that are interested. So please
offer ideas and suggestions. Here are a few:
Golf
Visit to Ft Sumter by boat
Tour of area Plantations
Tour of downtown historic homes
Haunted nighttime walking tour
Visit to the Hunley Civil War submarine
